River Heads Fishing Club was founded in 2009. One of its four founding members — the club's first treasurer, and still the person running the scoring on competition day — grew tired of the manual grind: results scribbled on cards at the weigh-in, typed up into a spreadsheet afterwards, and not seen by members until well after everyone had packed up and gone home. There had to be a better way, so they built one.
It started as a simple app on a single laptop at the weigh-in table — and it worked. Scoring that used to take the whole evening was done as the fish were measured. Which raised an obvious question: why shouldn't every club have this? And why should members wait for results at all, when they could watch the leaderboard update live on their own phones?
